The govinator hits California state workers pay. Expect to see states like Michigan and Florida follow suit:
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans next week to slash the pay of more than 200,000 state workers to the federal minimum of $6.55 per hour to help ease the state’s budget crisis, according to a draft executive order obtained by The Chronicle on Wednesday.
The governor also will order an end to overtime pay for all but critical services, a freeze on state hiring and the immediate layoff of nearly 22,000 temporary, seasonal and student workers

Good job. I think it’s a great idea. I live in Chico, California. The community is fairly small. Arnold has been there to visit us:) In Chico, recently, the media posted state government employee wages and the people in the City of Chico were appauled at how much these “state” wages were so incredibly over inflated. For example, I know a secretary from the Chico PD who makes upward in the 70,000 per year. This person has a high school diploma ONLY. Early in my career I was a firefighter making upwards near a six figure salary with only a semester’s worth of college education. The job is not that difficult, and to be quite honest with you, we had mostly of down time and were basically there to polish the rocks and polish the engine bay floors for that kind of money. I watched other coworkers plan a scheme where they would align with other firefighters to make arrangements of calling in sick, so the the other firefighters would get that shift as “overtime” pay while the supposed sick firefighter would use that sick pay rather than use their vacation pay. This happens all over the place. I’m sure more than just the city of Chico. Don’t get me wrong, I was happy with this employment because it allowed me to further my studies in medicine and become a Physician, however in hindsight this is robbing our city and creating a deficit which is impossible to alleviate. I do not agree the small wage earners are the problem here. Decreasing an already low earner his justified income is not the answer, however creating high wages for workers with little income is. Good job Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for seeing through this; at least partially. Lets hope that these inflated wages can now be dispersed to education.
